Sound Waves Decodable Readers

The Sound Waves Decodable Readers Foundation Extended Set consists of 40 books each featuring a focus phoneme–grapheme relationship, charming illustrations and a captivating story.

Books in the extended set include:

• CCVC and CVCC words


• newly learnt Special Words from the Sound Waves Spelling teaching sequence


• a steadily increasing word count of 40–150 words.

In addition, every extended Decodable Reader includes a Warm Up section with words containing the focus phoneme–grapheme relationship, Book Chat questions to encourage students to reflect on what they are reading, and tips for helping students during reading.

Sound Waves Decodable Readers follow a systematic teaching sequence to help students develop their decoding and word recognition skills. After all, when students are explicitly taught how to read, then their confidence, motivation and overall enjoyment of reading follows.
